I am using \u00a0an underlining \u00a0for the back and front bodices-\u00a0which\u00a0will be sewn as one with the\u00a0main\u00a0fabric. You can skip the underlining if you have a suitable fabric. Fold the bodice pieces by half and mark as follows.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">Back Bodice pattern<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-20809 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/sewguide.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/sundress1.png\" alt=\"free sundress sewing pattern\" width=\"795\" height=\"482\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18pt; font-family: Tahoma, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">A-B = Shoulder to waist length + 1&#8243; &#8211; This is the length of the bodice<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 18pt; font-family: Tahoma, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">A-H = as per table for armhole depth ( at the end of the post) &#8211; Bust line<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 18pt; font-family: Tahoma, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">A-C = 3.5&#8243; \u00a0( This is the neck width)<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 18pt; font-family: Tahoma, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">A-E = 1\/2 of shoulder to shoulder ( Measure from shoulder tip to shoulder tip)<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 18pt; font-family: Tahoma, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">E-F = 3\/4&#8243; ( neck width)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18pt; font-family: Tahoma, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">Mark straight down from shoulder measure to the bust line at A-H to K<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 18pt; font-family: Tahoma, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">K-L = 1&#8243; Mark diagonally from K to L 1&#8243; Mark the armhole line connecting H-L-F<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 18pt; font-family: Tahoma, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">G-H = 1\/4 of bust round + 1.5&#8243; . Mark 1&#8243; from inside from K to L<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 18pt; font-family: Tahoma, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">L-M =1&#8243; This is a mark made diagonally from L. Mark the armhole line F-M-G<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 18pt; font-family: Tahoma, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">G-H = 1\/4 of bust round + 1.5&#8243;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18pt; font-family: Tahoma, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">C-D = 6&#8243; This is the neck depth &#8211; you can take this as per your \u00a0preference<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18pt; font-family: Tahoma, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">B-I = 1\/4 of waist round + 1.5&#8243;<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 18pt; font-family: Tahoma, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">Cut out the front pattern on a piece of paper &#8211; that is if you would like to add a small dart on the side bust.Other wise you can skip the following steps and continue cutting the pattern on fabric and forget about darts. In this case ( ie if you do not want darts on either side of bust just give a soft curve upwards (1&#8243;) on the waistline as done on the back pattern)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18pt; font-family: Tahoma, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">If you want to add darts trace the front pattern on another piece of paper<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-20811\" src=\"https:\/\/sewguide.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/dress-pattern1.1-1.jpg\" alt=\"dart in dress \" width=\"419\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18pt; font-family: Tahoma, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">Cut the dart 3 inches long 3 inches from the side from the armline. Cut out the 1\/2 &#8221; dart along with 1\/2 inch sewing allowance. Using a tape , tape the dart closed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18pt; font-family: Tahoma, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">Keep this taped bodice pattern on top of the traced pattern<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-20813\" src=\"https:\/\/sewguide.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/dresspatterndart.jpg\" alt=\"dart in dress pattern\" width=\"375\" height=\"500\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18pt; font-family: Tahoma, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">When the dart is closed there is a difference in the pattern &#8211; the pattern reduces by 1\/2 inch. This has to be compensated . You will have to redraw the armhole line 1\/2 inch upwards \u00a0and 1\/2 inch to the sides to compensate for the dart.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-20812\" src=\"https:\/\/sewguide.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/dresspattern1.2-1.jpg\" alt=\"dart in dress pattern\" width=\"375\" height=\"500\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18pt; font-family: Tahoma, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">Cut out the front pattern piece as per this newly traced front bodice pattern( I have cut the underlining as well)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18pt; font-family: Tahoma, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-20786 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/sewguide.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/dress-pattern1.3.jpg\" alt=\"sundress cutting step by step \" width=\"427\" height=\"518\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18pt; font-family: Tahoma, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">Step 2<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18pt; font-family: Tahoma, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">You have to make the back button opening now<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18pt; font-family: Tahoma, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">Keep the back lining and back bodice rightsides together. On the lining cloth ( if you are not using lining you will have to use a facing to make the back opening ) Mark 4 inch down the center fold line of the back pattern<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18pt; font-family: Tahoma, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-20784\" src=\"https:\/\/sewguide.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/dress-pattern-1.8.jpg\" alt=\"summer dress pattern\" width=\"492\" height=\"375\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18pt; font-family: Tahoma, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">Sew a slanting line like in the picture below meeting at a point at the bottom of the line you have drawn<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18pt; font-family: Tahoma, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-20768\" src=\"https:\/\/sewguide.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/dress-pattern-7801.jpg\" alt=\"summer dress pattern\" width=\"375\" height=\"500\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18pt; font-family: Tahoma, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">Cut along the middle line ( careful that you do not cut the stitching line)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18pt; font-family: Tahoma, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-20764\" src=\"https:\/\/sewguide.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/dress-pattern-214.jpg\" alt=\"pattern summer dress \" width=\"375\" height=\"500\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18pt; font-family: Tahoma, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">Ensure that you cut to the very end . Turn the fabric inside out. It will look like this<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18pt; font-family: Tahoma, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-20781\" src=\"https:\/\/sewguide.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/dress-pattern-86.jpg\" alt=\"pattern summer dress \" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18pt; font-family: Tahoma, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">Step 3<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18pt; font-family: Tahoma, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">Mark the dart line the same way you did on the pattern piece. Mark the dart 3 inch down from the armhole . Make the dart 3 inch long.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18pt; font-family: Tahoma, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-20779\" src=\"https:\/\/sewguide.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/dress-pattern-1.3.jpg\" alt=\"girls summer dress pattern \" width=\"500\" height=\"666\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18pt; font-family: Tahoma, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">When you sew the dart Make sure that the tail ends are left out to tie it secure.
